what is the difference between the sunflower seeds black and gray?
I just made a great big bag of black / gray, like sunflower seeds a gift for my cockatiel. Then my friend told me that he was told that the black sunflower seeds are bad for birds and you should feed them seed Sunflower gray. I did not even know you could get different colored seeds. The pack was a cheap brand but it has been labeled "Bird" and my bird loves them. Thus it is safe to eat these or should I try to find other gray?
Sunflower Black seeds contain more oil in them, sometimes called oil sunflower seeds. both are fattening, rather than black. The problem with the seeds black, is that the birds love them so much, they eat them and ignore other foods, are a kind of "dependency". Please note that Regular sunflower seeds are only slightly better. Use them only as treats.
